What are Search Engine Friendly Listings?

Not all directories and search engines are created equal. Just because a directory or search engine has a link to your site does not mean that other search engines will recognize the link.

There are basically two types of links that a directory or search product will show: static and dynamic. A static link is a simple, straight-through link to your site and looks like www.yourdomain.com. A dynamic link is a redirect and has a "?" in the URL as follows: www.somedirectory.com?id=123. This redirect allows the directory to track which listings are getting the most click activity. A static link, on the other hand, supplies no information to the directory owner.

The major search engines recognize only static links because only those links contain your actual URL (your domain name). Since many of the major search engines use this incoming link information to determine how popular a site is, it's important that there are static links to your site..

Industry2Industry.com shows both types of links in your listing. The dynamic link is used to determine popular sites and the static link, which is visible to all users, provides a direct link to your site.

One last thing... If you like this site, please feel free to tell your colleagues.
